Crowns and Bridges
A chipped or damaged tooth can be unsightly, embarrassing and unpleasant to the touch - especially when it has one or multiple jagged edges. A broken tooth also creates a risk losing the root beyond restoration, and having to get dental implants which are time-consuming, expensive and inconvenient to get. To get your teeth, happy smile and functional life back, you may want a crown or bridge: two options that restore your teeth in a simple, natural-looking manner.
A crown is a “cap” that’s shaped like a tooth - and placed over a broken tooth to protect it. This often means sanding down a broken tooth in order to attach the crown over it - and the end result is indistinguishable from your own natural teeth in form, function and looks.
There are several types of crowns that differ in the materials used to make them - as well as the way they look and feel. Porcelain crowns are a premium choice, seeing as they very closely replicate a natural tooth’s looks. They are also hypoallergenic and easily attached in one visit to the dentist.
Perhaps best of all, even a damaged porcelain crown will retain its color, as there’s nothing underneath it to expose! This is not the case with porcelain-on-metal alternatives, which expose a metal when damaged.
If you need to replace up to 3 adjacent teeth, consider getting a dental bridge instead of multiple crowns or implants. To attach a bridge, the teeth on either side of it get crowns - and the bridge is then attached to those crowns. The result is that you get multiple teeth instead of having to get 1-by-1 dental implants. This is a great advantage in terms of convenience and cost.
